[This post relates to real events; what is described is actual people doing actual things. The names have not been changed. Any inaccuracies are memory related.]
Unbeknownst to SJB, group changes start time from 10 AM to 9 AM. SARJ walks SJB abruptly with the news that everyone is already at breakfast. “Even Matt?!?” “Yes. Even Matt.” SJB rallies and races to lobby restaurant, where SRK, SJP, and LHG are eating. SARJ and MDO have not yet appeared. After breakfast, check-out and on the road. SARJ driving truck; MDO driving SUV. Out of New Orleans by 9:30 AM. Lots of chatter on the phone. Stop for lunch at Mulate’s on the other side of Baton Rouge in Breaux Bridge. Cajun food, great wait-staff and great zydeco music (IMGP7206.MOV) MDO ate fried alligator and everyone agreed that it tasted like chicken. SRK ate a salad. Coffee was good, as was the praline supreme. Resumed drive to Galveston. SRK driving truck; SJP driving SUV. Stop for gas & water, etc. in [?]. Continue driving. Cross Texas border. Stop for photographs. Continue driving; no change in drivers. SJP realize that the directions to Galveston have not been finalized. Some discussion about best route and one is chosen. More driving. SRK/SARJ in lead truck miss exit; travel farther into Houston metro area than planned. Turn south after some discussion, pick-up 147 and cross neat “modern” bridge. SRK drives recklessly (his words) and tries to create accident conditions for the following SUV by running red lights. Pick-up 45 and on road to Galveston. Enter Galveston, SARJ doesn’t know direction to hotel; SJB directs SJP to hotel (off the 61st exit). CLB and PS arrive from Houston at hotel same time as SUV. Truck arrives a little while later. Check-in. Some down-time and get ready for dinner. Great dinner at Saltwater Grill. We do not go to 21 for cigars. Return to hotel. Conference room prepared for poker. Play Texas Hold-em until late in the evening. Inevitable argument, but less explosive than usual. Everyone retires.
